The specifications for elevator systems are partially specified in national regulations. Particular emphasis is placed on the ventilation of elevator cars and shafts. Potential CO2 concentrations are also considered in this context. Furthermore, smoke extraction from elevator systems is examined. The guideline offers assistance and solutions for the resulting issues.
This guideline closes a gap in previously missing specifications, especially for the ventilation of elevator systems. It provides all important information, instructions, and recommendations for the correct design of the necessary smoke extraction and ventilation of elevator shafts and cars in order to meet the protective objective of safe use of elevators. The guideline is aimed at manufacturers, planners, and operators of

Since the advent of machine-room-less elevators, many important development steps have hinged on suspension elements. Until now, these suspension elements in the medium-sized elevator industry have always been ropes. The term "suspension element" arose because belts were now being used instead of ropes.

The SIL3-certified shaft copying system can meet the requirements of EN81-20/21/50. The sensor technology is particularly characterized by its extremely simple installation and compact, robust design.
Life cycle assessments are created and used to estimate the environmental aspects and product-specific potential environmental impacts associated with a product throughout its life cycle (production, use, and disposal). In 2016 and 2017, two master's theses at Landshut University of Applied Sciences conducted corresponding assessments of the production and use of elevator doors by Meiller Aufzugtüren GmbH. The approach and the results will be presented in this presentation.

Elevators are essential for barrier-free access. Today, they are generally unusable in the event of a fire. In the future, accessibility can no longer be planned as a one-way street in the event of a fire. Safety elevators, rescue elevators, and evacuation elevators are the new barrier-free escape routes in buildings. Being able to rescue oneself is the best fire protection for everyone. The two-tiered fire protection system for people in need of assistance is in blatant contradiction to the German constitution: No one may be discriminated against because of their disability.
The biggest barrier is the old mental principle: don't use elevators in the event of a fire. This approach needs to be rethought.
Which options and requirements will soon become universally applicable in the near future? What contribution does elevator technology have to make to this? Practical examples from practice.
Ecological, economic and infrastructural influences are accelerating the unmistakable trend towards urbanization not only from a global perspective, but will also lead to a concentration of living space in Europe, and not least in Germany, and thus to a realignment in the planning of major cities and important economic centers.
On the other hand, it is well known that further spatial expansion is subject to ecological and infrastructural limits. Therefore, the only option remaining is development into the third dimension. The height of buildings and facilities for living and working, education, leisure activities, and medical care will have to continue to grow. This will enable us to pave over less land and preserve important green spaces for local recreation and, above all, for local amenities for people around cities.
This trend is accompanied by the need to ensure the mobility of the people living in this concentration with new visionary approaches.
As new buildings are built ever higher, this has direct consequences for the vertical transport facilities in such buildings.
Innovation in elevator technology with multi-cabin solutions and the latest development of the first ropeless elevator system specifically for tall and very tall buildings, which is even capable of horizontal travel, can ensure that buildings can be planned much more efficiently with increased transport capacity and reduced floor space.
In addition, these new technologies make it possible to overcome previous system limitations implied by technological and external influences.
The introduction of the POLYROPE DP (with back profile) enables very narrow widths with the smallest pulley diameters thanks to its extended positive guidance on the deflection pulleys.
The increasing demands on fire protection (especially in the USA) were taken into account with the development of a fire-retardant version, the POLYROPE FR.
The next development step is the combination of the POLYROPE and the POLYROPE DP. The result will be a robust, positively guided system that will completely close the gap between rope and belt technology.

This trade is not part of an elevator manufacturer's core competency. What needs to be considered? What are the limits of performance here, and how does this relate to elevator shaft smoke extraction?
Increased vandalism is increasingly being observed in the field, which leads to increased downtime of systems and thus to increased maintenance at shorter intervals.
The presentation is based on the current version of DIN EN 81-71 "Protective measures against deliberate destruction" and examines the requirements of the various lift categories 0 – 2 with regard to the perceived situation in the field. The focus is on the direct interfaces between the lift and the lift user.

The elevator as a transmitter of structure-borne sound is increasingly coming into focus when the sound pressure level is exceeded in rooms requiring protection. A large number
Sound events generated by an elevator system are transmitted through the shaft wall into the building. The term "sound" expresses the fact that the primary focus is on audible frequencies in the range of 16 Hz to 16 kHz. Elevator systems with a machine room rarely experience problems with structure-borne sound entering the building or rooms requiring protection.

Type-tested elevator systems dominate large parts of the market due to their technically optimized solution and the associated economic advantages.
At LiftEquip, we utilize these advantages by removing the mechanical components from existing systems and offering our customers the opportunity to offer an open system with components such as a control system and other electrical components that are freely available on the market.
This is the easiest way for the installation company to find a legally compliant solution for MRL systems on the market. Based on the electrical interface description and the documentation of the type-tested basic system, the customer can complete the elevator and then place it on the market through individual acceptance.
However, LiftEquip aims to offer its customers even better service to facilitate the use of these systems. To this end, we have the new system tested by TÜV Süd, based on the initial certification of the elevator system, including additional control systems and electrical components, as a complete system. The customer can then market the certified system with its own type-examination certificate.

EsCare is the name of this revolutionary method, which allows for repairs while the equipment is still in place. This has never been done before.
The North German, expansion-oriented company "Weber Tec GmbH" has been a competent and reliable partner for operators of escalators and moving walkways in Germany and neighboring countries since 2004.
Its repair services range from build-up welding and hairline crack inspections as workshop tasks, to the repair of steps and pallets both in-situ and in-the-workshop. Furthermore, it also includes the procurement and storage of required or hard-to-obtain spare parts and their installation, as well as inspections and the application of permanent anti-slip coating.

Elevator emergency call systems have been a recurring topic of discussion in recent years, particularly due to the retrofitting requirement under the German Industrial Safety Ordinance and the end of the analog telephone network. Now, another topic is relevant: the revision of EN 81-28. The presentation will focus on explaining the new features of prEN 81-28 using a product example. Solutions and risks associated with using the Next Generation Network as a communication channel will also be discussed.
New developments pose a risk for every company. On the one hand, a technical risk, and on the other, an economic risk. Managing this technical risk requires expertise and qualification within the company. The economic risk of new developments can be mitigated by incorporating subsidies. How can the resulting motivation to ensure both maximum system security and optimal and secure use of one's own systems be maximally supported?
What are the responsibilities and duties of the managing director?
Reducing the sensor technology to vibration, acceleration, and load sensors enables data analysis directly at the elevator system. Henning's many years of expertise in acceleration and load measurement systems have been incorporated directly into the evaluation algorithms. For example, this makes it possible to draw conclusions about the condition of the drive or gearbox by analyzing the vibration data.
The concept, presented in 2015, has now been implemented as the WEARwatcher product. This monitors the measured physical parameters of the elevator in real time. This enables the system to detect long-term trends as well as sudden changes. Comparison and diagnostic algorithms draw on a large amount of collected data and can thus provide maintenance recommendations.

These can be calculated according to VDI guidelines and made comparable using life cycle benchmarks based on operator data (developed in a research project at Fraport). The authors report on an approach that makes elevator products and services assessable in context. However, its success depends on the client and operator being able to make decisions together.

The energy efficiency of elevator systems and components has become an increasingly important focus for elevator companies and operators in recent years. VDI 4707 makes it possible to determine the actual energy consumption of elevator systems. The VDI 4707 label is often used in advertising.
“My” elevator has energy class A. This statement can be read alongside many relative numbers.
How should such statements be evaluated? How much money can one actually save? How sensible is energy recovery?
Modern communication in elevators presents new possibilities for communication between elevator and user through connection to the Internet and the local networking of elevator components based on open interfaces.
More features for the same price. The smallest emergency phone is getting even smaller and has even more features. The GSM modules are learning and becoming even more secure. The all-rounder SL6 becomes a directly connected partner to the control system. All advantages at no extra cost that you can offer your customers. Displays and voice announcements work with the CANopen bus. The active elevator attendant LiftSafe monitors the entire system – added value for everyone.
The wiring of elevator floor control panels varies greatly depending on the requirements and circumstances. Designs range from a single push button per floor and just two stops to complex group control systems with information displays, acoustic signaling, and access and priority control at each shaft door. Finding an optimal wiring standard in this area is a challenge. Common bus systems are usually over-suited for the simple signals of floor control panels. In addition, space is sometimes limited, as bus nodes and control elements must also fit into narrow door frames and wall boxes. A solution based on the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) is presented. The LIN bus is a proven serial single-wire bus used in the automotive sector. The UTLIN push button even combines the LIN bus node, call button, and travel indicator into a single compact module. The LIN bus solution is complemented by practical shaft wiring.
